¿Quién es el autor?
- 林語堂 (1895–1976)，福建龍溪人，作家、語言學家，曾留學美國哈佛與德國萊比錫，以《吾國與吾民》、《生活的藝術》等英文著作向西方介紹中國文化，晚年定居台灣
- 本書 1938 到 1939 年間在巴黎以英文寫成，原名 Moment in Peking，1939 年在美國出版；作者把它獻給在抗戰中犧牲的將士
- 林語堂曾說，這本書的結構受到《紅樓夢》的影響；全書分為三部：〈道家的女兒〉、〈庭園的悲劇〉、〈秋之歌〉
- 1939 年出版，依本站分類屬於 1950 年以前的經典小說；曾多次改編為電視劇
