- 保羅・弗雷勒 (Paulo Freire，1921–1997)，巴西教育學家，被譽為批判教育學的奠基者
- 長年在巴西與智利推動農民的識字教育，1964 年巴西政變後入獄，之後流亡海外十五年
- 本書 1968 年以葡萄牙文出版，1970 年推出英譯本；繁體中文五十週年版由方永泉、張珍瑋翻譯，巨流圖書出版
