Who is the author?
- 厄尼斯特・海明威 (Ernest Hemingway, 1899–1961)，美國作家，曾任記者，參與過第一次世界大戰與西班牙內戰的報導；以簡潔、有力的「冰山理論」文體影響了二十世紀的文學
- 本書英文原名 The Old Man and the Sea，1952 年發表，最初刊登在《生活》雜誌上，兩天內賣出五百多萬份；1953 年獲得普立茲小說獎
- 1954 年，海明威獲得諾貝爾文學獎，評審特別提到他在《老人與海》中展現的敘事藝術
- 他晚年住在古巴哈瓦那附近，小說中的漁村柯希馬，就是以當地的漁村為原型；中文版書名《老人與海》，有多個譯本
