Who is the author?
- 尼可斯・卡山札基 (Nikos Kazantzakis, 1883–1957)，希臘最重要的現代作家之一，出生於克里特島的伊拉克利翁，曾在巴黎學哲學，深受尼采、柏格森與佛學影響
- 本書 1946 年以希臘文出版，原書名是《亞歷西斯・左巴的生平與時代》；1952 年譯成英文。左巴的原型是真實人物喬治・左巴斯 (1867–1941)，卡山札基年輕時曾和他一起經營褐煤礦
- 卡山札基多次獲諾貝爾文學獎提名，另著有《基督的最後誘惑》，因為宗教觀點引起爭議。他的墓碑上刻著：「我無所求，我無所懼，我是自由的。」
- 1946 年出版，依本站分類屬於 1950 年以前的經典小說；中文版書名多為《希臘左巴》
